What It Covers

What transit insurance covers.

FreightInsure is per-shipment transit insurance — also known as cargo insurance or freight insurance — for Australian shippers, freight forwarders, and logistics businesses. Each policy covers a single consignment from pickup to delivery, across road, rail, sea, and air freight.

If your goods are lost, damaged, or stolen in transit, you claim direct with the insurer and get paid out, subject to policy terms. Cover includes physical loss, damage in transit, and theft of goods, up to AUD 100,000 for domestic freight and AUD 50,000 for international freight, based on the declared value of your cargo.

Cover is purchased per shipment based on the goods being sent, their declared value, and the route. International transit insurance is available for shipments across multiple carriers, ocean freight, and longer trade lanes, including incidental storage during the ordinary course of transit. For full inclusions and exclusions, see the PDS.

This information is general only and does not take into account your objectives, financial situation, or needs. Before purchasing, read the Product Disclosure Statement & Financial Services Guide and Packaging Guidelines.

Domestic

Up to AUD/NZD 100,000 per consignment

FreightInsure's domestic transit insurance covers goods transported within Australia by road, rail, sea, and air. Australian shippers, freight forwarders, and logistics businesses can insure cargo per shipment — including general freight, equipment, machinery, and vehicles — based on the declared value of the consignment, subject to policy terms.

International

Up to AUD/NZD 50,000 per consignment for international inbound and outbound shipments

FreightInsure's international cargo insurance applies to shipments moved by sea, air, road, or rail across multiple carriers and trade lanes. Cover extends to both inbound and outbound shipments, including incidental storage during the ordinary course of transit. For full inclusions, exclusions, and any standalone storage requirements, see the PDS.

Loss in transit

If your consignment doesn't arrive, transit insurance covers physical loss of your goods up to the declared value, subject to policy terms.

Accidental damage

Freight insurance covers accidental physical damage to goods during handling, loading, or transit — from pickup to delivery — including water damage, subject to policy terms.

Theft

Cargo insurance covers theft of your goods during transit or incidental storage in the ordinary course of transit, subject to policy terms.

FAQs

Transit insurance, explained.

Find answers to FAQs about shipping insurance for senders of freight.

What does transit insurance cover?

FreightInsure covers loss, damage, and theft of goods in transit for domestic shipments within Australia and New Zealand, as well as international shipments with an Australian or New Zealand start or end point. Your goods are covered from pickup to delivery up to AUD 100,000 per consignment for domestic AU transits, NZD 100,000 for domestic NZ transits, or AUD/NZD 50,000 for international transits — subject to policy terms and packaging requirements.

Is there an excess on FreightInsure claims?

No. FreightInsure has no excess — the full declared value of your goods is claimable from dollar one, subject to your policy terms. This is one of the key differences between FreightInsure and traditional marine insurance, which typically carries excesses of $1,000 or more.

How quickly are claims resolved?

Our target is to resolve claims within 5 business days of receiving all required information. Claims are managed by FreightSafe, which has 20+ years of freight claims experience.

Do I need to pack my goods in a specific way to be covered?

Yes — correct packaging is a condition of cover. Read our packaging guidelines before shipping to ensure your goods are claimable.

Can I buy cover for regular shipments?

If you ship regularly, a business account may suit you better. Book a call with our team to discuss bulk cover options.
